Legal Codes

Terms of service

Last updated:

In brief

The app provides, for information purposes, the texts of the legal codes of several countries: currently Italy, with Normattiva as its source, Spain, with the BOE as its source, Poland, with the ISAP as its source, and France, with Légifrance as its source. The texts have no official or legal value and do not constitute legal advice. By using the app you accept these terms.

1Acceptance of the terms

By using the Legal Codes app (available on Android, iPhone and iPad and as a web application at codicigiuridici.pages.dev/app) you fully accept these Terms of Service. If you do not accept them, please do not use the app.

2Description of the service

Legal Codes is an application that allows offline consultation of the main codes, consolidated acts and laws of several countries. Italy, Spain, Poland and France are currently available; for each country the content is taken from the official source indicated in section 10.

The app interface is available in several languages. Only the interface is translated: the texts of the laws remain in the official language of the country and are not translated. The interface translations have no legal value.

3Permitted use

The app is intended for personal and professional use for information purposes. It is prohibited to:

  • use the app for illegal or unauthorised purposes
  • attempt to access, modify or interfere with the app's systems
  • reproduce or distribute the app's content without authorisation and without complying with the conditions of the source (section 10)

4No guarantee of accuracy of the content

The texts of the legal codes are provided for information purposes only and have no official or legal value. Despite the effort to keep the content up to date, there is no guarantee that the texts reflect the law in force at any given time. The official and authentic text is only the one published in the official editions of each country:

  • Italy: Gazzetta Ufficiale della Repubblica Italiana (Official Gazette of the Italian Republic)
  • Spain: «Boletín Oficial del Estado» (BOE)
  • Poland: «Dziennik Ustaw» (Journal of Laws of the Republic of Poland)
  • France: «Journal officiel de la République française» (Official Gazette of the French Republic)

The content may contain errors, omissions or may not reflect the latest legislative changes. Before relying on a text for legal or professional purposes, always check the official version on the source's website (section 10) or in the official edition.

5Disclaimer of liability

The app and its content are provided "as is", without warranties of any kind, express or implied. The developer accepts no liability for:

  • direct or indirect damage resulting from the use of, or the inability to use, the app
  • decisions taken on the basis of the texts consulted in the app
  • service interruptions, technical errors or loss of data
  • suspensions, changes or lack of continuity of the service of the official sources, which may prevent or delay updates of the texts
  • content of third-party websites reachable through links in the app

6Not legal advice

The information provided by the app is for information purposes only and does not constitute professional legal opinion or advice. The app does not determine which legal system applies to your case. For any legal matter, consult a lawyer or a qualified professional.

7Choice of country

Each country has its own texts, its own source and its own CDN. Bookmarks, notes, history and favourites are kept separate for each country, and a backup can only be imported into the country from which it was exported.

At first launch the app suggests a country based on the device's language, region and time zone, read on the device and without using location (details in the privacy policy). The suggestion may not be the one you need: you can change country at any time from Settings. When you change country, the texts of the new country are downloaded the first time.

The available countries and sources may change over time: there is no guarantee that a country or a source will remain available, or that others will be added.

8Data export and import

The app allows you to manually export the favourites, bookmarks and notes of the country in use to a JSON file saved on the user's device (Settings → Backup → Export backup). The same file can be reloaded later, including on another device, using the import function (Settings → Backup → Import backup). The backup file remains entirely under the user's control: it is not uploaded to any cloud service or sent to the developer.

9Business model

The app is completely free and ad-free. There are no banners, third-party ad networks, paywalls, paid features or requests for donations.

10Sources of the texts and attribution

The texts in the app are taken from the official sources of each country and reproduced in accordance with the terms of use of each source, summarised below. No source approves, endorses or takes part in the app, which is an independent project and is not affiliated with public bodies.

Italy Normattiva

The texts are taken from Normattiva.it, the portal of Italian legislation created and run by the Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato for the Presidency of the Council of Ministers. They are reproduced in accordance with the Normattiva terms of use, which allow reproduction in electronic format provided that the following are stated:

  • the source: Normattiva.it
  • the non-authentic nature of the texts: they are not the official texts published in the Gazzetta Ufficiale, which prevail in case of discrepancy
  • the free of charge nature of the reproduction: the texts are made available free of charge and for information purposes only

The Presidency of the Council of Ministers and the Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato are not responsible for errors or inaccuracies, or for any damage resulting from actions or decisions taken on the basis of the texts. The app is not approved or endorsed by these bodies.

Spain BOE

The texts are taken from the Boletín Oficial del Estado (BOE), in the consolidated version (legislación consolidada) made available by the Agencia Estatal Boletín Oficial del Estado. They are reused in accordance with the BOE reuse conditions, which allow reproduction and adaptation, including for commercial purposes, under these conditions:

  • citation of the source, with a link to boe.es: «Fuente de los datos: Agencia Estatal Boletín Oficial del Estado». Since the app adapts and reorganises the texts for consultation, the formula «Basado en datos de la Agencia Estatal Boletín Oficial del Estado» also applies
  • informative nature: each text is described as «texto consolidado de carácter meramente informativo»; only the official editions published in the BOE have legal value
  • no endorsement: the app does not suggest in any way that the BOE supports, sponsors or takes part in it
  • update date: for each text the app shows the date of the last update at the source
  • fidelity to the text: the meaning of the information is not altered and any changes or adaptations are identifiable as such

The BOE does not guarantee the continuity, in content and form, of the availability of the documents (although it seeks to maintain it) and is not liable for errors, omissions or damage resulting from the use of the information: use is at the risk of whoever reuses it.

Poland ISAP

The texts are taken from the System Informacyjny Sejmu (ISAP), the information system of the Sejm, the lower house of the Polish Parliament, run by the Kancelaria Sejmu (its Chancellery). They are reused under the reuse conditions published by the Sejm, which allow free use of the system's materials on these conditions:

  • citation of the source: «System Informacyjny Sejmu». Because the app reworks the texts for consultation, it also states «Na podstawie danych z Systemu Informacyjnego Sejmu (Internetowy System Aktów Prawnych, Kancelaria Sejmu) oraz tekstów jednolitych ogłoszonych w Dz. U.»
  • informational character: «Tekst ma charakter wyłącznie informacyjny i nie jest tekstem urzędowym»; only acts published in the Dziennik Ustaw and in the Monitor Polski have legal value
  • no endorsement: the app is independent and does not suggest that the Sejm or any other State body supports it or takes part in it; it uses neither the coat of arms nor logos
  • date of the legal status: for each text the app states the date it refers to
  • no commercial offer: the materials are not part of a commercial offer; the app is free and has no advertising

The app is not approved or endorsed by the Kancelaria Sejmu. Any errors the app may introduce when reworking the texts are the developer's responsibility.

France Légifrance

The texts are taken from the LEGI database (consolidated codes, laws and regulations) of the Direction de l'information légale et administrative (DILA), published through Légifrance, the public service for the dissemination of law on the internet. They are reused under the Licence Ouverte 2.0 of Etalab, which allows free reuse, including commercial reuse, on these conditions:

  • citation of the source: «D'après la base LEGI de la Direction de l'information légale et administrative (DILA), Légifrance, réutilisée sous Licence Ouverte 2.0. Textes mis en forme et complétés de renvois par l'application.» In the settings the app also shows the address from which the data is downloaded (https://echanges.dila.gouv.fr/OPENDATA/LEGI/) and the name of the last file applied
  • informational nature: «Texte consolidé sans valeur officielle. Seule la publication au Journal officiel de la République française fait foi.»; only acts published in the Journal officiel have legal value
  • no endorsement: the licence forbids giving the reuse an official character and suggesting approval by the DILA or any other public body; the app is independent and uses no coat of arms or State logos
  • date of update: for each text the app shows the date of the last update at the source
  • fidelity to the text: the reuse must not mislead as to content, source and date of update; the app keeps only the version in force and adds cross-references, and says so

The information is provided as produced or received, with no guarantee that it is free of errors or continuously available. The app is neither approved nor endorsed by the DILA or by the Secrétariat général du Gouvernement. Any errors the app may introduce when adapting the texts are the developer's responsibility.

The app's source code, design and original graphic elements are the property of the developer. The legal texts reproduced remain subject to the terms of use of their source.

11Changes to the service and the terms

The developer reserves the right to modify, suspend or discontinue the service at any time without notice. These Terms of Service may be updated periodically, including to add a country or a source; the updated version will be published on this page. Continued use of the app after changes are published constitutes acceptance of the new terms.

12Governing law

These Terms of Service are governed by Italian law. For any dispute, the court of the developer's place of residence has jurisdiction. The mandatory rights that the law of your country of residence grants you as a consumer remain unaffected.
